Hong Kong's Veterinary Surgeons Board faces criticism over delays in investigating hundreds of alleged malpractice complaints, upsetting both pet owners and vets.
In March 2025, Hongkonger Tara Fung took her eight-month-old Munchkin cat, Yuen Yuen, to a clinic for spaying. Two hours later, she was told the pet had died from an allergic reaction to a sedative.
Fung said she never saw her cat again and found the clinic's response baffling. She filed a complaint with the Veterinary Surgeons Board of Hong Kong, but the body determined it was not a case of malpractice.
“Who would have thought she would go in and never come out … I never got to see her again,” Fung told the South China Morning Post. She added: “I felt very powerless.”
The report notes that long delays in VSB investigations have become a widespread issue involving hundreds of complaints.
