John W. Finney, 52, was sentenced to 75 years in prison after being convicted of first-degree murder in the death of his wife, Amy J. Finney.
Finney killed his 42-year-old wife during a domestic dispute at their home in Jefferson County on Aug. 31, 2025. He then drove around for hours the next day with her body in the trunk of his gray 2007 Ford Escape. Deputies responded to a possible homicide report on Sept. 1, 2025, and pulled over the vehicle about an hour later. Officers found Amy Finney dead in the hatchback during a search of the car. Evidence indicated that she died from a gunshot wound. Finney was detained at the scene and later returned to jail after sentencing. He will be transferred to the Illinois Department of Corrections.
