The Indonesian government strongly condemned Israeli forces for intercepting the Global Sumud Flotilla in international waters near Cyprus on Monday. Several Indonesian nationals including journalists were among those detained in the incident.
Indonesia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that at least ten ships in the humanitarian Global Sumud Flotilla were intercepted by Israeli forces in the eastern Mediterranean waters near Cyprus. Vessels including Amanda, Barbaros, Josef, and Blue Toys were among them.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Yvonne Mewengkang confirmed that one Indonesian national named Andi Angga Prasadewa was aboard the Josef. Efforts continue to establish contact with the vessel carrying Republika journalists Bambang Noroyono and Thoudy Badai.
Various Indonesian figures urged the government to take firm action. AWG chairman Anshorullah called for Indonesia to exit the Board of Peace in protest. KH Cholil Nafis of the MUI and Din Syamsuddin emphasized the need to protect citizens.
Foreign ministers from ten countries including Turkey and Spain condemned the move. They demanded the immediate release of all activists and respect for international law.
