The remains of three Indonesian soldiers killed in the UNIFIL mission in Lebanon arrived at Soekarno-Hatta Airport on Saturday afternoon. They died on March 29-30 from attacks in southern Lebanon, followed by injuries to three others on April 3. The government held a welcoming ceremony as a final tribute.
Three TNI soldiers, Kopda (Anm) Farizal Rhomadhon, Mayor Inf (Anm) Zulmi Aditya Iskandar, and Serka (Anm) Muhammad Nur Ichwan, died while serving in the Indonesian Garuda XXIII-S/UNIFIL contingent in southern Lebanon. Kopda Farizal Rhomadhon was killed by artillery fire near Adchit Al Qusayr on March 29, 2026. The next day, March 30, Mayor Inf Zulmi Aditya Iskandar and Serka Muhammad Nur Ichwan died in an attack on the convoy they were escorting.
UNIFIL held a final tribute ceremony on April 2 at the Lebanese Air Force Hangar in Beirut, led by Force Commander Major General Diodato Abagnara. The ceremony was attended by the Indonesian Ambassador to Lebanon, UNHQ New York representatives, and Lebanese military personnel. The remains were posthumously awarded UN and Lebanese Armed Forces medals.
The remains arrived in Indonesia via Turkish Airlines flight TK 056 from Istanbul at 5:35 PM WIB on April 4, 2026. A welcoming ceremony was held at Soekarno-Hatta Airport before transfer to Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base. They will be buried at TMP Cikutra in Bandung, TMP Giri Dharmaloyo II in Magelang, and TMP Giripeni in Kulonprogo.
Meanwhile, on April 3, three other Indonesian personnel were injured in an explosion at a UN facility near El Adeisse, two seriously, said UNIFIL spokesperson Kandice Ardiel. UNIFIL stated investigations into the incidents are ongoing and urged all parties to ensure peacekeeper safety.
