Ronald Knot joins Sparta Prague after leaving Färjestad

Czech defenseman Ronald Knot has signed with Sparta Prague following his departure from SHL club Färjestad. The 31-year-old impressed during his time in Sweden but was released last week. Knot returns to his homeland after a brief stint in the Swedish top league.

Ronald Knot's tenure with Färjestad BK ended abruptly on Thursday when the club announced his departure from the squad, opting instead to recall Noel Fransén from BIK Karlskoga. Knot had joined Färjestad in September on a seven-week contract to cover for the injured Magnus Nygren. His performances were strong enough to warrant an extension through the entire season.

Over 33 SHL matches, the Prague native recorded two goals and two assists. Despite these contributions, Färjestad chose to part ways, allowing Knot to pursue opportunities closer to home. On Sunday, Sparta Prague officially presented the 31-year-old as their new signing.

Knot, who boasts Olympic and World Championship experience, previously spent much of his career with rival club Slavia Prague. He served as Slavia's captain during the 2016/17 season when the team competed in the Czech second division. This move marks his first stint with Sparta, a historic club struggling this year, currently sitting seventh in the Czech Extraliga— their worst position in years. Sparta has not claimed the national title since 2007, with recent champions including Kometa Brno and Ocelari Trinec.

The transfer highlights the fluidity of player movements in European hockey, especially for veterans seeking stability. Färjestad's decision reflects ongoing squad adjustments amid the competitive SHL season.
