Suge Knight to release memoir detailing Tupac Shakur's murder

Suge Knight, co-founder of Death Row Records, has announced an upcoming memoir titled Your Pain Is My Joy. The book, set for release on August 4, promises a candid account of his life, including his version of events surrounding Tupac Shakur's 1996 shooting. Knight wrote the 352-page work while serving a 28-year prison sentence.

Suge Knight, known as a central figure in hip-hop history, will publish his memoir Your Pain Is My Joy on August 4 through Gallery Books, an imprint of Simon & Schuster. The book offers what its description calls a 'candid and unapologetic look inside the mind of the original rap kingpin.' Knight co-founded Death Row Records in 1991 alongside Dr. Dre, propelling West Coast rap to prominence with artists including Tupac Shakur and Snoop Dogg. Often described as 'the most feared man in hip-hop,' Knight has ties to the Compton street gang the Bloods and a record of violent incidents. The memoir addresses key controversies, such as the rumor that he dangled Vanilla Ice over a balcony to secure publishing rights for 'Ice Ice Baby,' and his clashes with Bad Boy Records founder Sean 'Diddy' Combs. It also covers the East Coast-West Coast hip-hop rivalry and Knight's account of the night Shakur was shot in Las Vegas in September 1996, which resulted in the rapper's death. Knight penned the book during his current 28-year sentence for voluntary manslaughter. That conviction stems from a January 2015 incident in which he struck and killed Terry Carter with his car.
