Australian lawyer joins Duterte ICC defense team

An Australian lawyer has been appointed as associate counsel for former President Rodrigo Duterte at the International Criminal Court. Kate Gibson formally accepted the role on May 18 and will work with the defense team led by Peter Haynes in the crimes against humanity case.

The International Criminal Court allowed associate counsel Dov Jacobs to withdraw from former President Rodrigo Duterte's defense team on May 8. Lead counsel Nicholas Kaufman also requested to leave as the case enters trial preparations.

The International Criminal Court has approved the withdrawal of Nicholas Kaufman as lead defense counsel for former Philippine president Rodrigo Duterte. Trial Chamber III issued a five-page decision stating that the change causes no prejudice or inconvenience.
