Ayaneo launches Pocket S Mini handheld for retro games

Ayaneo has released the Pocket S Mini, a premium handheld gaming device designed specifically for emulating classic console games in their original 4:3 aspect ratio. The device features a high-end build and is available now on the company's website starting at $319. This launch addresses a gap in horizontal handhelds that avoid black bars during retro gaming.

Ayaneo's Pocket S Mini stands out among gaming handhelds by offering a true 4:3 aspect ratio, ideal for revisiting classic console games from the CRT television era without vertical black bars. While devices like the Anbernic RG405M and Ayaneo's own Pocket Air Mini provide similar ratios, the Pocket S Mini elevates the experience with a full metal frame and glass front panel for a more premium feel.

The device sports a 4.2-inch LCD screen with a resolution of 1,280 x 960, flanked by Hall effect joysticks featuring RGB lighting, Hall effect triggers, and crystal-textured buttons. Powered by a Snapdragon G3x Gen 2 chip and a 6,000mAh battery, it caters to enthusiasts seeking reliable performance for emulation.

Unlike many of Ayaneo's previous releases, the Pocket S Mini skips crowdfunding and is already available for purchase on the company's website. Early bird pricing starts at $319 for configurations with 8GB of memory and 128GB of storage in Obsidian Black or Ice Soul White. The Retro Power colorway, limited to top specs of 16GB memory and 512GB storage, begins at $479. Retail prices are expected to range from $399 to $559 once early bird offers end, though the exact timeline remains unspecified.

This launch highlights growing interest in retro-focused handhelds, providing a seamless way to enjoy childhood favorites in their native format.
