Brown bear spotted running on NA-140 road in Navarra

A brown bear was observed running on the NA-140 road between Ochagavía and Ezcároz early Sunday morning.

The sighting took place at 3:00 a.m. on Sunday. A neighbor from Oronz recorded the video from his vehicle while returning home.

The footage shows the animal running along the right lane and shoulder of the road, even entering Ezcároz at one point.

According to the Transboundary Monitoring Group on the bear population in the Pyrenees, the 2025 estimate stands at 130 individuals. Genetic analysis has identified 108 bears, and six litters with eight cubs were detected this year.
