Instagram allows editing comments within 15 minutes

Instagram has introduced a feature letting users edit their comments on posts within 15 minutes of posting. The Meta-owned platform announced the change, which applies to iOS and Android apps but not the web version. Users can make unlimited edits during that window, with an 'edited' label visible to others.

Instagram rolled out the comment editing feature on Thursday, giving users a brief window to correct typos or improve their replies without deleting them. Meta stated that edits are possible only within 15 minutes after posting, and there is no limit on the number of changes made in that time. The option appears as an 'Edit' button directly on the user's comment in the app, where they can revise the text and confirm with a blue check mark. If a comment includes both text and a photo, only the text can be edited, and the edited status is shown to viewers without revealing previous versions. The feature works on comments in posts and Reels, and is available in the Instagram iOS and Android apps, though not on the web interface. Users can still delete their comments by tapping and holding, and post owners can delete others' comments on their content. This update mirrors Instagram's message editing capability, introduced in 2024, over a decade after direct messaging launched in 2013. It follows other recent changes, such as the removal of end-to-end encryption from Instagram DMs earlier in March and testing of a subscription service called Instagram Plus at the end of the month.
