Meta tests Threads web redesign with direct messages

Meta has begun testing a redesigned web version of Threads that adds a direct messaging inbox and improves navigation. Connor Hayes, head of Threads, demonstrated the changes, which include new shortcuts for saved posts, insights, activity, and switching feeds. The company plans further investments in the web experience.

The update introduces a DM inbox to the Threads website, a feature previously available only in the mobile app since last June. Previously, web users struggled to access options like insights, often requiring navigation to their profile or pinning columns. Hayes highlighted these enhancements in a recent preview, noting that testing is underway though no rollout timeline was specified. He stated Meta will 'be investing more here going forward.'

This includes faster flagging of child exploitation material, immediate reporting to local authorities, and its removal from the platform. The deal also targets scams such as fake investment schemes using deepfakes of officials, business leaders, and celebrities.
