Kansas man pleads guilty to killing wife in Nintendo Switch dispute

A Kansas man has pleaded guilty to felony murder and aggravated kidnapping in the shooting death of his estranged wife during an argument over a Nintendo Switch console. Joshua Orlando, 29, faces decades in prison for the April killing of 25-year-old Ivy Unruh in Wichita.

Orlando entered the pleas this week in Sedgwick County court. The shooting took place on the morning of April 17 at the Remington Apartments on East 37th Street North. Police found Unruh with a gunshot wound after responding to a 911 call made by Orlando.

According to court documents, Orlando told investigators that an argument escalated when Unruh struck him with a bag containing the Nintendo Switch. He said he fired a single shot from his SIG Sauer handgun in response. Unruh was pronounced dead at a hospital several days later.

The couple had a documented history of domestic issues, including Unruh's August 2025 divorce filing. In the petition, she sought to keep the gaming console while Orlando retained his pistol. Orlando is scheduled to be sentenced on August 28 and faces a minimum of 38 years and nine months in prison before parole eligibility.
