The victims died from gunshot wounds fired at contact range, according to the Midwest Medical Examiner's Office: Jennifer to the chest, and Marzai to the back. Spent bullets and an unspent round were found near the bodies, along with a 9 mm handgun later recovered across the street from the residence. A 9 mm handgun was found several hours later across the street behind the residence. While in custody, Marsaw made statements insinuating the act was committed 'in the heat of passion.'
