Many cats missing from register despite legal requirement

Since the cat marking law took effect on 1 January 2023 around 700 000 cats have been registered. A large number of cats are still missing from the Jordbruksverket register.

The law requires all cats to be marked and registered. Registrations arrived quickly at first but the pace has since slowed.

Department head Anders Elfström at Jordbruksverket says the agency needs to reach nearly one million more cats.

The information comes from Nerikes Allehanda and is based on data from Jordbruksverket.
