Talecka C. Brown, 34, was sentenced to 50 years in prison Friday for shooting her then-13-year-old daughter in the neck during a 2024 argument.
The shooting took place on September 23, 2024, at the family's home in Seat Pleasant, Maryland. Brown initially told police that a homeless person had fired the shot. She later urged her daughter to claim that an intruder had broken in and committed the act.
Prosecutors said Brown showed no concern for her daughter's condition despite the girl's visible pain. After her arrest, Brown left a voicemail for the girl's father from jail stating that the case would go away if the child refused to speak with authorities.
A jury convicted Brown in October of attempted first-degree murder, first-degree child abuse, first-degree assault, and using a firearm as a felon to commit a violent crime. She faced a possible life sentence on the top charge.
Court records confirm the 50-year term handed down on Friday.
