The director general of the Guardia Civil appeared Tuesday before the Senate Interior Commission to reject any involvement in alleged plots against the UCO or influence from Leire Díez.
Mercedes González reiterated several times that she had "never, ever" participated in smear campaigns or taken measures against Guardia Civil agents. She stated that her contacts with Leire Díez were limited to two informal coffees where no matters related to the force were discussed.
The witness explained the opening of three internal inquiries on leaks affecting the UCO, all closed without consequences for the agents. She stressed that these were routine administrative actions within the institution.
The PP and Vox demanded her immediate resignation, citing contradictions with UCO reports. González rejected the accusations and insisted that neither she nor Interior Minister Fernando Grande-Marlaska had lied.
