Odm meeting in kisumu reveals splits in oburu camp

An ODM meeting held in Kisumu on Sunday has shown divisions within the group led by Senator Oburu Oginga.

Several senior party leaders did not attend the meeting. They include Deputy Chairman Otiende Amollo, Millie Odhiambo, Ruth Odinga and Junet Mohamed.

Supporters filled Kirembe grounds where the Luo community announced support for President Ruto for a second term. Dr Otiende Amollo said he missed the meeting due to other engagements in Nairobi.

Governor Anyang Nyong'o attended and said the future of ODM will not be decided by Luo Nyanza areas alone. Party sources say Junet Mohamed has fallen out with the party leadership.

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has confirmed Oburu Odinga as its party leader at a Special Delegates Conference (SDC) held on March 27, 2026, at Jamhuri Grounds in Nairobi. Delegates rejected Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi as deputy leader for lacking a proposer and seconder, referring his replacement to the National Executive Committee (NEC). A parallel meeting was held by the faction led by Edwin Sifuna.

Leaders of the Linda Mwananchi faction have intensified their campaign with a visit to Mombasa, greeted by a large crowd while criticizing ODM leadership and President Ruto's government. They stressed that separating from ODM is inevitable to restore the party's original principles. Godfrey Osotsi announced his official joining after his removal from ODM.

Leaders of Linda Mwananchi within ODM have issued strong rejections against the Linda Ground faction led by Siaya Senator Dr Oburu Oginga. They say they will not reconcile until political decisions made after Raila Odinga's death are reversed. They also demand halting talks with UDA and full implementation of the 10-point agenda.
