Psy referred to prosecution over alleged medical law violation

Singer Psy has been referred to prosecutors on suspicions of receiving prescription psychotropic drugs through third parties.

The Seoul Seodaemun Police Station said Friday it referred a total of six people, including Psy, his manager and the prescribing doctor, to the prosecution on suspicions of violating the medical law. The singer, whose real name is Park Jae-sang, is accused of obtaining prescriptions for Xanax and Stilnox at a Seoul university hospital through non-face-to-face treatment between 2022 and 2025. Current law requires that only the patient who has seen a doctor in person can receive the drugs. Violations carry a prison term of up to one year or a fine of up to 10 million won. Xanax and Stilnox are psychotropic drugs used for sleep and anxiety disorders that require face-to-face examinations due to addiction risks. Psy’s agency P Nation said the police investigation into the proxy collection of sleeping pills has concluded and the agency will cooperate with any further prosecution inquiry.
