New York City’s first lady Rama Duwaji wore an upcycled dress made from bootleg Knicks merchandise at the team’s championship parade on Wednesday morning.
The New York Knicks defeated their opponents 4-1 to claim their first NBA title in 53 years, with the final buzzer sounding Saturday night. Mayor Zohran Mamdani announced a ticker-tape parade that began near Bowling Green in Lower Manhattan and ended at City Hall Plaza with a Key to the City ceremony.
Duwaji joined her husband on the team float. She wore a cascading T-shirt dress designed by Miss Claire Sullivan, a 2026 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund finalist who created the garment from multiple colored bootleg Knicks shirts sourced by friends.
Sullivan said she was inspired after family members requested shirts and described the process of draping the fabric on her own body Friday morning. “I could not be more proud of our city and everyone representing it right now,” she added, calling it an honor to dress the first lady.
Mamdani wore a Josh Hart jersey beneath his suit jacket during the event.
