Sony to remove TV guide features from select Bravia models

Sony will eliminate several features from the program guides on certain Bravia televisions starting late May 2026, affecting users of over-the-air antennas and set-top boxes. Channel logos and thumbnail images will disappear, and program information may be limited. The changes apply to models from 2023 through 2025.

Sony is scaling back TV guide functionalities on select Bravia smart TVs equipped with Google TV, as detailed on the company's support page first spotted by Cord Cutters News. The updates, effective late May 2026, target channels received via over-the-air antennas. Users will no longer see channel logos or thumbnail images in program descriptions, with guides showing only programs from recently watched channels. Program details may not display depending on the channel, according to the support page. Sony's support page lists the affected models: 2025 Bravia 8 II (XR80M2) and Bravia 5 (XR50); 2024 Bravia 9 (XR90), Bravia 8 (XR80), and Bravia 7 (XR70); and 2023 Bravia A95L series. For set-top box users, the dedicated menu will be replaced by a simpler Control menu, also dropping thumbnail images. This impacts the integrated TV guide that aggregates antenna, FAST channels, and live streaming content. Sony provided no explanation for the changes, despite inquiries from Ars Technica. The company stated: “We appreciate your understanding and apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.” While antenna and set-top box usage has declined amid streaming's rise—19% of US adults used antennas in a 2025 survey and 26% relied on set-top boxes in a 2024 study—the move may frustrate dedicated users of these high-end TVs, some priced up to $4,500.
