South Korea and the United States will launch formal negotiations next week to implement security agreements reached at their leaders' summit.
Seoul's foreign ministry said Friday that the two countries will hold a kickoff meeting in Seoul on Tuesday and Wednesday to discuss security-related parts of the joint fact sheet issued after the November summit between President Lee Jae Myung and U.S. President Donald Trump.
First Vice Foreign Minister Park Yoon-joo will lead the Korean delegation, while U.S. Under Secretary of State Allison Hooker heads the American side. The agenda is expected to cover nuclear-powered submarines, uranium enrichment and spent nuclear fuel reprocessing capabilities, and expanded shipbuilding cooperation.
Foreign Minister Cho Hyun told Yonhap News Agency that Seoul aims to quickly revise the civilian nuclear cooperation agreement. The U.S. State Department said Hooker will advance nuclear cooperation initiatives agreed during Trump's October visit to South Korea.
