서울 외교부는 29일 양국이 11월 리재명 대통령과 도널드 트럼프 미국 대통령 간 정상회담 이후 발표된 공동 사실 시트의 안보 관련 부분을 논의하기 위해 화요일과 수요일 서울에서 킥오프 회의를 개최한다고 밝혔다.
박윤주 제1차관이 한국 측 대표를 맡으며 미국 측은 앨리슨 후커 국무부 정무차관이 이끈다. 의제에는 핵추진 잠수함 건조, 우라늄 농축 및 사용후핵연료 재처리 역량 확보, 조선 협력 확대가 포함될 예정이다.
초현 외교부 장관은 연합뉴스 인터뷰에서 민간 핵 협력 협정을 조속히 개정하고 관련 진전을 가속화하겠다고 말했다. 미국 국무부는 후커 차관이 10월 트럼프 대통령의 방한 때 합의된 핵 협력 이니셔티브를 진전시킬 것이라고 전했다.
