Toyota Motor Corp. announced plans to begin importing right-hand drive Camry sedans produced in the United States to Japan as early as this fall.
The company aims to sell 10,000 units annually in Japan. The move is intended to help reduce the US trade deficit with Japan. Chairman Akio Toyoda spoke at an event in Shizuoka Prefecture. He stated that the imports could lead to further review of tariff issues if they improve the trade balance. Camry sedans were previously sold in Japan until 2023. Two other US-made Toyota models, the Tundra and the Highlander, have been available in Tokyo since April.
