Traeger launches affordable Westwood pellet grills

Traeger has introduced its Westwood series of smart pellet grills, starting at $699 for the base model. The new line offers Wi-Fi connectivity and app control at a lower price than previous entry-level options. The grills are now available from retailers including Ace Hardware.

Traeger unveiled the Westwood and Westwood XL pellet grills on April 15, providing more budget-friendly options amid the company's ongoing financial restructuring. The base Westwood model features 653 square inches of two-tier cooking space and sells for $699, while the XL version offers 823 square inches for $799. These prices undercut the previous Woodridge series, which started at $899, and the new grills replace the Pro series in Traeger's lineup. According to a press release shared with CNET, the series incorporates Traeger's wood-fired flavor technology with convection airflow for consistent results across grilling, smoking, roasting, and baking within a 180-450 degrees Fahrenheit range. The grills include an 18-pound side-mounted pellet hopper, button-based controller for temperature adjustments, wired and optional wireless food probes, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity via the Traeger app, and compatibility with Pop and Lock rail accessories. Shelves on the side and under the cooking chamber provide prep space. However, the models lack Super Smoke and Keep Warm modes found on pricier Traegers, support only one wired probe by default, and have no pellet sensor. Traeger positions the Westwood as a set-it-and-forget-it device for everyday cooking.
