Tokyo police have arrested a 58-year-old woman on suspicion of attempted murder after she stabbed a woman in her 40s and her husband in his 50s at a hotel restaurant. Police in Tokyo arrested 58-year-old Aiko Kobayashi on suspicion of attempted murder after she stabbed a woman in her 40s and her husband, in his 50s, while they dined at a restaurant on the first floor of the Rihga Royal Hotel in Shinjuku Ward. The attack happened around 9:30 p.m. Friday, according to police. Kobayashi brought the knife to the restaurant and has admitted to the stabbing.
The female victim suffered injuries to her right eye and both shoulders, which are expected to require about two weeks of treatment. Her husband sustained minor injuries. Acquaintances at the table restrained Kobayashi until officers arrived.
Police quoted Kobayashi as saying, “I don’t remember why I stabbed them.” Officials said the three individuals had a history of disputes over their marital relationships.
Jiji Press reported the incident, noting it occurred suddenly during dinner.
