Parliament announced the 31 MPs who will serve on the Impeachment Committee probing President Cyril Ramaphosa over the Phala Phala matter. The panel was established following a Constitutional Court order earlier in May.
The MPs include Julius Malema, John Hlophe, Fadiel Adams, Vuyolwethu Zungula and Faith Muthambi. The committee comprises nine ANC members, six from the DA, three from MK, two each from ActionSA and the EFF, and one each from other parties.
Earlier in May the Constitutional Court directed Parliament to set up the body to examine findings by a Section 89 panel. That panel concluded Ramaphosa had a case to answer regarding the theft of at least $580,000 in cash at his Phala Phala farm.
Ramaphosa intends to seek a court review of the Section 89 report. Parliament must first amend its rules before the committee can elect a chairperson and begin work.
