Business leaders ready to invest under new De La Espriella government

Natalia Gutiérrez, head of Colombia's National Business Council, voiced optimism about the new government of Abelardo De La Espriella and called for clear rules to revive investment.

Gutiérrez stated that businesses are prepared to invest and create jobs if the government ensures legal stability and unlocks projects in infrastructure, energy, housing and industry. She noted private investment fell from 20.6% to 17% of GDP over four years, while growth relied mainly on public spending.

The leader rejected calls for civil disobedience, such as those made by Iván Cepeda, and stressed that differences must be resolved within institutional frameworks. She also warned of rising extortion in regions like Huila.

On the electricity sector, Gutiérrez said the system faces risks from the El Niño phenomenon, with firm energy deficit projections of -2.3% this year and -4.4% next. She urged faster generation and transmission projects and resolution of debts with thermal plants.
