The Ministry of Ecology and Environment announced on Thursday that a new round of central environmental inspections will cover seven provincial-level regions for one month.
The inspections form the sixth batch of the third round. They target Liaoning, Jilin, Heilongjiang and Guangdong provinces, plus the Guangxi Zhuang, Xizang and Xinjiang Uygur autonomous regions, along with the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps.
The campaign was approved by the Communist Party of China Central Committee and the State Council under existing regulations on central ecological and environmental protection inspections.
Teams are normally headed by ministerial-level officials and report to a central leading group led by a vice-premier. The Liaoning team, for instance, is headed by Cai Mingzhao, with Xu Bijiu, vice-minister of ecology and environment, as deputy head.
Each team will set up a hotline and postal mailbox to receive public complaints about ecological and environmental issues.
