The Federal Constitutional Court has rejected emergency applications against the legislative process for the health savings package. This allows the Bundestag to vote on the law as planned on Friday.
The Federal Constitutional Court announced on Thursday that the applications for a temporary injunction had been unsuccessful. Two members of parliament from the Greens and the Left had challenged the rushed procedure after the coalition submitted 278 pages of amendments shortly before the vote.
Chancellor Friedrich Merz praised the reform efforts of the black-red coalition in his government statement on Thursday. He stressed that compromises were being sought for the benefit of the country.
The package from Health Minister Nina Warken is intended to relieve statutory health insurance funds of rising expenditures in 2027. Planned measures include limits on reimbursement increases and restrictions for patients, including higher co-payments for medicines.
