Egypt's Agriculture Minister Alaa Farouk held talks with Uganda's Agriculture Minister Frank Kagyigyi Tumwebaze and State Minister Robert Ndugwa Mejadde to strengthen cooperation in agriculture, livestock, and fisheries sectors.
Farouk underscored the historical ties between the two countries and the political leadership’s directives to turn signed memoranda into tangible projects that promote food security.
Tumwebaze praised Egypt’s agricultural advances and affirmed Uganda’s interest in exchanging expertise on aquaculture, livestock improvement, and modern irrigation.
The ministers reviewed progress at the 500-hectare joint model farm in Uganda and agreed to expand cultivation of maize, soybeans, beans, wheat, and sunflower.
They also discussed annual supply of 10 million doses of foot-and-mouth disease vaccine and opening the Ugandan market to Egyptian poultry and egg products from facilities certified free of avian influenza.
