Egypt intensifies preparations to host OECD MENA ministerial meeting

Ahmed Rostom, Minister of Planning and Economic Development, held talks with Italian and Turkish officials to boost cooperation under the OECD MENA Programme, focusing on hosting an upcoming ministerial meeting.

Rostom discussed with Luca Sabbatucci, Italy’s Permanent Representative to international organisations in Paris, priorities for the Governance Pillar co-chaired by Egypt and Italy. The meeting covered opportunities to deepen Egyptian-Italian cooperation and support public investment and economic resilience in the region. In a separate meeting with Esen Altuğ, Türkiye’s Permanent Representative to the OECD, the two sides reviewed mechanisms to activate the Competitiveness Pillar jointly led by Egypt and Türkiye. Rostom reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to close coordination with partners to ensure the success of the upcoming ministerial meeting. The minister highlighted achievements of Egypt’s OECD Country Programme since its launch in 2021, which is scheduled to conclude later this month. He also outlined plans for a new phase of cooperation focused on empowering the private sector and attracting foreign direct investment.
