Elly De La Cruz rejoined the Cincinnati Reds lineup on Tuesday for their game against the Milwaukee Brewers, ending a three-week stint on the injured list with a right hamstring strain.
The 24-year-old shortstop had been sidelined since injuring his hamstring while running to first base against the Braves on May 31. This marked his first time on the injured list in a Major League career that began in 2023.
De La Cruz played three rehab games at Triple-A Louisville and took live batting practice on Monday. "I feel good. I feel ready to go out there and do my part to help the team," he said before the game.
Manager Terry Francona noted the value of having De La Cruz back while emphasizing the need to monitor his health. Outfielder JJ Bleday said the return would benefit the entire lineup by creating threats on the bases.
The Reds optioned outfielder Will Benson to Louisville to make room. Cincinnati entered the game 10 1/2 games behind the Brewers in the National League Central but three games back from a Wild Card spot.
