Elon Musk has confirmed that Tesla's Hardware 3 (HW3) cannot achieve unsupervised Full Self-Driving (FSD). The company is offering HW3 owners who purchased FSD discounted trade-ins and upgrades. Tesla also plans micro factories to support conversions to HW4.
Elon Musk stated that HW3 vehicles cannot reach unsupervised FSD capabilities. In response, Tesla is providing options for affected customers. Musk said, 'For customers that have bought FSD on HW3, we are offering a discounted trade-in for cars that have AI4, and also offering the ability to upgrade the cars computer and cameras.' He added that the company will set up micro factories in major metro areas and convert all HW3 cars to HW4 over time. Tesla has separately confirmed that FSD V14 Light will roll out to HW3 owners by the end of June. These announcements address concerns from early FSD adopters on older hardware.
