Grigor Dimitrov has pulled out of the Mifel Tennis Open in Los Cabos, Mexico, after sustaining a leg injury during practice. The Bulgarian cited bursitis as the reason for his withdrawal ahead of the US Open.
Dimitrov felt discomfort in his leg during practice on Friday and underwent medical checks that confirmed bursitis. He posted on Instagram that rest and recovery had been recommended, expressing regret to the tournament and its fans.
The 35-year-old was set to face Moise Kouame in the first round. This would have marked his start on the hard-court swing leading into the US Open.
Dimitrov remains hopeful of competing at the Canadian Open, which begins on August 2. Earlier this season he reached the second round at Indian Wells but exited in the first round at Miami, Monte Carlo and Madrid.
