Ken Mak is cataloguing and offering 53 fruit trees for adoption in Yick Yuen Tsuen before he must leave the village by late May.
Ken Mak, 47, has recorded the species, height and girth of 53 fruit trees on his family flower farm and at a nearby church in Yick Yuen Tsuen, Tuen Mun. He created a catalogue with photographs and has taken visitors on tours of the trees. Fourteen have been adopted so far.
Mak’s family owns 30 of the trees, which were planted by his grandfather. The village lies inside the Hung Shui Kiu/Ha Tsuen New Development Area and contains about 2,000 trees in total. Mak must move out by late May.
“My hope is to find kind-hearted people willing to adopt the trees my grandfather planted and give them a chance to avoid being crushed to death by excavators,” Mak told the South China Morning Post.
