IVO directs serious criticism at Länssjukhuset Ryhov after around 80 children were incorrectly declared healthy from heart diagnoses over six years. The authority points to deficiencies in patient safety work at Region Jönköpings län.
IVO has reviewed the children's clinic at Länssjukhuset Ryhov and identified serious deficiencies. Department chief Peder Carlsson states in a press release that the care provider received signals over a long period that should have led to more measures. The region has not carried out sufficient risk analyses or acted on warning signals, according to IVO. Management had received alerts about the doctor several years earlier but the individual continued working. Affected families demand openness and accountability from management in a statement to Aftonbladet. They do not want responsibility placed on staff who raised alarms. The Liberals propose a national reform called Lex Hjärtebarnen to strengthen patient protection. Region Jönköpings län must report measures before the end of summer.
