NBA trade rumors heat up with interest in DeRozan and others

The NBA trade deadline is set for Feb. 5, but rumors are already swirling as teams assess their rosters after one month of the season. The Los Angeles Clippers are reportedly interested in Sacramento Kings forward DeMar DeRozan, while trade talks involving Anthony Davis, LaMelo Ball and Ja Morant are also gaining attention. These discussions highlight potential moves amid early-season struggles for several franchises.

With the NBA season underway, teams are beginning to eye the trade market despite the deadline not arriving until Feb. 5. According to reports, the Clippers, who hold a 5-12 record and rank 21st in offensive efficiency, are interested in acquiring DeMar DeRozan from the Kings. The Athletic's Sam Amick notes that DeRozan's partially guaranteed contract for next season—$10 million of a $27 million deal—makes him attractive. At 36, DeRozan could boost Los Angeles' scoring, though his age and defensive limitations raise concerns for a veteran-heavy roster facing defensive woes.

Meanwhile, the Dallas Mavericks face challenges in trading Anthony Davis. The 32-year-old forward has not played since Oct. 29 due to a calf strain and appeared out of shape when healthy, struggling defensively. ESPN's Tim Bontemps reports that Davis' injury history and massive contract—$54.1 million, $58.4 million and $62.7 million over the next three seasons—have deterred suitors. His trade value could improve with a strong return, but the situation may linger until closer to the deadline.

Trade speculation around Charlotte Hornets guard LaMelo Ball, 24, is considered premature. Yahoo Sports' Kelly Iko reported Ball's growing disgruntlement with the team's direction, though Ball denied openness to a trade. Jake Fischer indicates the Hornets might explore options ahead of the deadline. Ball's ankle injuries—he has played only 20 more games than Zion Williamson in his career—pose risks, but his youth, talent and reasonable contract give him high trade value.

For the Memphis Grizzlies, who sit at 6-11, Ja Morant is another name in play. The 26-year-old point guard recently stated he has lost his joy for basketball and served a one-game suspension for conduct detrimental to the team. Currently sidelined by a calf strain, Morant is averaging near career lows and has not improved as a shooter, compounded by past off-court issues. Bontemps reports Memphis will explore the market, though finding a suitable package may prove difficult.
