North Korean Foreign Minister Choe Son-hui held talks with Vietnamese counterpart Le Hoai Trung in Pyongyang and agreed to deepen exchanges and cooperation in various fields.

The meeting took place on May 13 at the Assembly Hall in Pyongyang. Le Hoai Trung arrived in North Korea on May 12 as a special envoy of Vietnamese President To Lam.

The two sides discussed international and regional issues and agreed to strengthen strategic communication as well as mutual support between their foreign policy organs. Choe cited the outcome of summit talks between North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and To Lam held in Pyongyang last October.

On the same day, Kim Song-nam, secretary of the Workers' Party central committee, also met Trung and vowed to boost party-to-party exchanges. To Lam's visit marked the first by a Vietnamese top leader to the North in 18 years and was tied to celebrations for the 80th founding anniversary of the North's ruling party.
