Aceh enters transitional disaster recovery phase until April 2026

Aceh Governor Muzakir Manaf has declared a shift in disaster management from emergency response to a transitional phase toward recovery for 90 days, until April 29, 2026. The decision follows an assessment by the Aceh Disaster Management Agency and a letter from the Interior Minister. Key priorities include cross-sector coordination, meeting basic needs, and preparing for rehabilitation.

Aceh Governor Muzakir Manaf, commonly known as Mualem, announced the status change during a coordination meeting of the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda) in Banda Aceh on Thursday evening. The announcement was attended virtually by the Director General of Regional Administration Development from the Ministry of Home Affairs, Safrizal ZA.

"We have established the transitional emergency status to hydro-meteorological disaster recovery in Aceh for the next 90 days, effective from January 29 to April 29, 2026," said Mualem.

The decision is based on a quick assessment by the Aceh Disaster Management Agency (BPBA) team and the Minister of Home Affairs' letter No. 300.1.7/e.153/BAK dated January 29, 2026. Mualem urged Aceh Regional Work Units (SKPA) and stakeholders to prioritize cross-sector coordination, fulfillment of basic needs for vulnerable groups and evacuees, and smooth logistics distribution.

Specific measures include maintaining operations of the Sibanceh Toll Road Section 1 (Padang Tiji–Seulimum) to support heavy equipment mobilization, and a no-barcode policy for subsidized fuel at gas stations. Funding will come from the Aceh Revenue and Expenditure Budget (APBA). Mualem targets the Post-Disaster Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Plan (R3P) document to be completed in early February, formalized on February 2, and submitted to the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) on February 3, 2026.

In the education sector, Minister of Basic and Secondary Education Abdul Mu'ti assured that rehabilitation of affected schools in Aceh will be completed by 2026 at the latest. As of January 15, 2026, 171 educational units were impacted, with a national budget of Rp2.4 trillion for Sumatra. In North Aceh, rehabilitation will proceed in phases with full completion by 2026, including emergency classrooms built in cooperation with the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI). Mu'ti inspected schools such as SMK Kesuma Bangsa and SMPN 2 Mutiara Batu, emphasizing revitalization of support facilities like toilets and laboratories in line with President Prabowo Subianto's directives.
