Director of Public Prosecutions Renson Ingonga has ordered two police officers charged with the murder of 20-year-old Shukri Adan, shot dead in Mukuru kwa Njenga. Officers Sergeant Godwin Mjomba and Constable Patrick Mutunga Titus will appear in court on January 30, 2026. The directive follows an IPOA investigation revealing evidence against them.
In Mukuru kwa Njenga, Embakasi, Nairobi, Shukri Adan Ibrahim Issaka was shot in the head at 12:10 PM on January 11, 2026. Prior to the incident, Shukri was traveling with Wycliffe Nyakwama and Festus Mutinda in a Toyota Fielder with registration KDN 266B, delivering the vehicle to Mr. Joho in Imara Daima. Their car collided with a matatu, sparking an argument, after which police officers from Villa station arrived and ordered them to lie down. Shukri was shot and died on the spot, according to evidence presented by IPOA Deputy Director Abdirahaman Jibril.
His body was taken by residents to a mosque for prayers and later underwent an autopsy. The killing provoked protests and property damage, with Magistrate Carolyne Mugo agreeing with IPOA that a thorough investigation was needed. Jibril alleged a conspiracy to cover up the murder involving officers from Villa.
DPP Renson Ingonga, after reviewing the evidence, stated: “After evaluating the evidence presented by investigators, I have decided that Sergeant Mjomba and Constable Mutunga be charged with the murder of Shukri Adan.” The officers appeared in court on January 12, 2026, and were remanded for 10 days. They opposed detention, claiming cooperation with IPOA, but Mugo ordered them held at Capitol Hill to complete the probe and assess their mental fitness. They will answer the murder charge at Milimani High Court on January 30, 2026.
