DRC Declares New Ebola Outbreak

The Democratic Republic of Congo has confirmed its 16th Ebola virus disease outbreak in Kasai Province, with 28 suspected cases and 15 deaths reported. The index case was a 34-year-old pregnant woman admitted to hospital last month. Health authorities are responding to contain the spread.

Outbreak Details

The outbreak was officially declared on September 4, 2025, by DRC government officials, as announced by the Africa CDC. The affected area is Kasai Province, where the initial case involved a pregnant woman who exhibited symptoms leading to laboratory confirmation of Ebola.
