In the first Bundesliga match after the winter break, Eintracht Frankfurt and Borussia Dortmund played out a thrilling 3-3 (1-1) draw. New signing Younes Ebnoutalib scored on his debut, and the game remained exciting until stoppage time. Both teams shared the points but were dissatisfied with the result.
The Bundesliga restart in 2026 kicked off with an action-packed clash between Eintracht Frankfurt and Borussia Dortmund at the Deutsche Bank Park. The match ended 3-3 (1-1) and provided entertainment until the final whistle.
Dortmund opened the scoring early: Maximilian Beier netted in the 10th minute from a cross by Julian Ryerson to make it 1-0. Frankfurt responded quickly – Can Uzun converted a penalty in the 22nd minute, awarded after Serhou Guirassy fouled Robin Koch, leveling at 1-1.
In the second half, Dortmund regained the lead: Felix Nmecha scored in the 68th minute for 2-1, with the ball deflecting off Hugo Larsson. But Frankfurt hit back immediately – Younes Ebnoutalib, who recently joined from SV Elversberg and was in the regional league just a year ago, scored his first Bundesliga goal in the 71st minute to tie it at 2-2.
Stoppage time was chaotic: Ex-Dortmund player Mahmoud Dahoud struck in the 90.+2nd minute for Frankfurt's 3-2 lead. However, Carney Chukwuemeka equalized in the 90.+6th minute to secure the draw.
Both coaches and players expressed frustration. Borussia coach Niko Kovač said: "3-3 is not what I wanted. And not what we deserved. We should have won today." Felix Nmecha added: "If you control a game like that, have so many chances and don't win, it's not good." Frankfurt's sporting director Markus Krösche commented: "Annoying that we conceded the 3-3, but it was a good performance from us."
Dortmund remains second behind FC Bayern Munich, while Frankfurt stays seventh. Other matches were canceled due to Storm Elli, but mild weather prevailed in Frankfurt.
