Ethiopia rolls out new uniform vehicle license plate system

Ethiopia is replacing old vehicle license plates with a uniform national system. The new plates feature the ETH code and QR codes.

Ethiopia is rolling out this system this year. It removes regional identifiers and includes the ETH code along with QR codes in line with the Vienna Convention.

The new plates are designed to be durable for long-term use with high-security printing to prevent fraud. They include a modern chip and an RFID tag affixed to the windshield.

The system ensures the plate does not change when a vehicle changes service and completely avoids additional costs. Many countries around the world use similar uniform systems.
