Ex-ciclista cuestiona a Nadal como referente para los atletas

El ex ciclista francés Jérôme Pineau ha declarado que Rafael Nadal no es un buen modelo a seguir para los jóvenes deportistas debido a su forma de gestionar las lesiones.

Pineau hizo estos comentarios durante su reciente participación en el programa "Les Grandes Gueules du Sport" de RMC. Afirmó que la disposición de Nadal a jugar a pesar del dolor envía un mensaje equivocado.

"No, (Rafael) Nadal no es un buen modelo a seguir para los atletas jóvenes", señaló Pineau. "Teniendo en cuenta sus hechos y sus palabras, si fuera ciclista, habría sido sancionado por dopaje".

Pineau reconoció la resiliencia y el talento de Nadal, pero criticó la decisión del español de competir mientras lidiaba con problemas crónicos en el pie. A Nadal se le diagnosticó el síndrome de Müller-Weiss tras fracturarse el pie izquierdo en 2005. Más tarde, disputó el Roland Garros de 2022 con el pie anestesiado.

Pineau indicó que prefiere un enfoque diferente. "Si tengo un problema, me cuido, paro y vuelvo a empezar cuando estoy curado", añadió. El ciclista no acusó a Nadal de incumplir las normas antidopaje.
