Government to provide support for successful seventh general election

Afeworki Tagesse from the House of Peoples' Representatives stated that the government will provide all necessary support for the successful conduct of the seventh general election. This was announced during a national network meeting in Addis Ababa under the motto 'Institutions of justice and democracy are the backbone of a successful government growth.' The election is set to proceed as free, fair, and technology-enabled.

The national network meeting focused on justice and democracy institutions took place in Addis Ababa on Ketit 26, 2018 (Fana Media Corporation). Afeworki Tagesse noted that the fundamental reforms implemented in the National Electoral Board of Ethiopia (NEBE) are advancing the country's democratic system to a higher level.

Specifically, amendments to the political parties registration and election administration law have created conditions for the board to operate independently without any bias. The government will offer substantial assistance in manpower and logistics to organize the institution. This support aims to ensure the election proceeds in a free, fair, and democratic manner.

The reforms in the board guarantee transparency, playing a key role in the growth of the democratic system, according to Tagesse. Numerous favorable conditions have been established for the seventh general election to be conducted as free, democratic, and equipped with technology. NEBE spokesperson Melat Werqu Haylu stated that the board's transition to digital operations enhances the election's integrity.

To make the election process free, fair, and accountable, increasing the use of technology and encouraging active participation from all stakeholders is essential.
