Hospital wing in SP shut down after larvae found on floor

A wing of the Conjunto Hospitalar de Sorocaba hospital in interior São Paulo was shut down after larvae were spotted on the floor of the Day Clinic unit. The larvae reportedly fell from air conditioning units, prompting immediate isolation and cleaning measures.

The incident took place at the Conjunto Hospitalar de Sorocaba (CHS), a healthcare facility in interior São Paulo focused on quick procedures in the Day Clinic wing. Larvae were spotted on the floor of the area, reportedly falling from the installed air conditioning units.

In a statement from the State Health Secretariat (SES), the CHS expressed regret for the occurrence and reported that the Hospital Infection Control Commission was activated immediately. Actions involved isolating the affected area, thorough cleaning, sterilization, and environmental maintenance to ensure safety.

"The measure did not impact patient care, which continues to be provided in other areas of the hospital," the CHS stated. The institution emphasized that the air conditioning is under maintenance and that all sterilized materials are stored with proper protection, in line with current regulations.

The episode underscores the need for strict hygiene protocols in hospital settings, though there are no indications of direct impact on patient health. Health authorities are continuing to monitor the situation to prevent future occurrences.
