More than 90 rail projects face standstill due to missing funds

More than 90 new and expansion projects of Deutsche Bahn could come to a standstill without sufficient federal funds. This emerges from the federal government's response to an inquiry by the Greens.

The federal government's response to the inquiry shows that investments planned until 2030 fall short of the identified need. Both planned and already ongoing projects are affected.

The transport alliance Allianz pro Schiene called on the federal government to honor its commitment. "We expect the federal government to deliver on its promise: namely that what is ready for construction is actually built," said managing director Dirk Flege.

The alliance also criticized that the Infraplan must be funded for long-term planning over more than one fiscal year. The federal government must adjust accordingly in the 2027 budget.

Leading CDU politicians reject the SPD proposal to suspend the debt brake and demand a savings package from Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil (SPD). Tensions in the black-red coalition are rising as Klingbeil prepares the key points for the 2027 budget. The trigger is SPD parliamentary leader Matthias Miersch's push amid the ongoing Iran crisis.
