Nibelungen Festival opens with «Die Hunnenkönigin»

The Nibelungen Festival in Worms has opened with the premiere of «Die Hunnenkönigin».

The premiere of the German-English co-production took place on Friday evening at the open-air venue in front of the Kaiserdom. The ensemble featuring Maria Dragus as Kriemhild and Aram Tafreshian as Etzel presented a contemporary take on the saga with theater, dance and music by Alice Merton.

More than 1400 spectators applauded after about three hours. Guests included Defense Minister Boris Pistorius and Minister President Gordon Schnieder.

Pistorius told the Deutsche Presse-Agentur that the play reflects today's situation of war and peace. The festival runs until August 2.
