El pontífice culminó su visita a Barcelona con una misa multitudinaria en la Sagrada Familia, donde inauguró y bendijo la Torre de Jesús en el centenario de la muerte de Antoni Gaudí.

El papa León XIV ofició una misa en el interior de la basílica y bendijo desde el exterior la Torre de Jesús de 172,5 metros de altura. El acto coincidió con el atardecer y la iluminación por primera vez de la cruz blanca en lo alto de la torre.

El pontífice describió el templo como una “catequesis hecha de piedras, colores y luz” y lo llamó “signo de unidad y concordia para toda España”. Habló en catalán y castellano durante la alocución.

Asistieron los reyes de España, el presidente Pedro Sánchez con 14 ministros y más de 8.000 personas. Miles siguieron el acto desde la calle con pantallas gigantes y un espectáculo de drones que formó el rostro de Gaudí.
