Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (Dr.) inaugurated factories with significant capacity for the energy sector in Hawassa Industrial Park on Miyazya 17, 2018 EC (April 25, 2026). Three solar factories and a supporting gas factory were launched. Together, the solar plants will generate over 11.3 gigawatts of clean power annually.

Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (Dr.) inaugurated the second phase of Toyo Solar Energy factory in Hawassa Industrial Park. Built with a $170 million investment, the factory has created 1,600 jobs and produces 4 gigawatts of power annually.

The second factory, Origin Solar located in the park's phase, started operations with a $55 million investment. Featuring over 90% automation, it generates 4.3 gigawatts per year. The third, Lumintek Solar, launched with $100 million investment, created 1,500 jobs and produces 3 gigawatts annually.

Overall, the three solar factories will produce 11.3 gigawatts of clean power yearly, supplying domestic needs and enabling exports for foreign exchange. The fourth factory inaugurated today, H.Zed Gas Factory, was built with $6 million capital and employs over 100 workers. It produces 900 tons of oxygen, 40,000 tons of nitrogen, and 7 tons of hydrogen annually to support the solar industry.
